The Accountability Unit has four strategic work streams: litigation, advocacy, research and mentoring.
Those work-streams seek to advance legal accountability for gender based human rights violations through petitioning international and national legal bodies, raising awareness of gender based harm amongst stakeholders and harmonising domestic state practice with international legal obligations. Our projects also bolster direct legal assistance to survivors of sexual violence and gender based harm, through local partners, by providing specialist legal assistance to survivors.
We work primarily in the South Caucuses and the Middle East with a key focus on Turkey.
Our areas of expertise relate to:
Gender and equality law
International humanitarian and criminal law
International public and human rights law
Transitional constitutions and constitution-building
